What’s happened to At Fishers Cross?

It seems that At Fishers Cross now has the “fear” in him as twice in a row he has now fallen at the last hurdle in a chase and lost any chance of a race.
That’s two times he has been odds on and lost.
The layers and bookies would be laughing their socks off but I doubt we will see him as short as 8/11 again this season unless he improves his jumping immensley.
I have always liked horses and I have an affinity with them that makes their personalities seem as individual as humans and other sentient beings such as Dogs. They are not stupid and can remember when bad things happen to them.
With all clever animals we know that they have a memory. Kick a cat once and it won’t be sat on your chest as you sleep purring away ever again when you wake in the morning.
The same goes for horses.
The first fall he had when beaten by Celestial Halo, he was 10/11 favourite, and the fall was just shocking. I was amazed Barry Geraghty managed to keep him upright as I was sure a blue vets tent was about to come out. It was brilliant skill by Barry to keep the horse upright and for him to stay on the saddle. Unfortunantley AP wasn’t so lucky!
It seemed that this horrible fall must have stuck in the horses mind as in his very next race, one where he was set off as an odds on 8/11 favourite again, we saw him once again jump shockingly poorly before unseating champion jockey AP McCoy at the end.
Whether the horse has the fear or not I don’t know but bad jumping doesn’t have to always be a hindrance.
For as long as I can remember Long Run has never jumped cleanly like Sprinter Sacre did last year when he cleaned the field one by one with perfect straight jumps.
Long Run always seems to jump to the side and sloppily, brushing through the obstacles and I have felt his bad jumping has always let him down in his last two seasons. Despite this however it hasn’t stopped the horse from winning, placing and not unseating riders.
Therefore keep that in mind as his odds are driven up for the Cheltenham World Hurdle dramatically, as much as 14/1 with some bookies, the same as Reve De Sivola, a horse who has beaten him twice this season now already!
In the World Hurdle though I will be personally going for the unbeaten Annie Power. Many people might be betting their house on Big Buck’s re-gaining his crown but I’m not too sure.
Not only have we not seen Big Buck’s race competitively since his injury but Annie Power is so far unexposed and looked great in her first race when she beat Zarkandar in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot this November.
Yes there was a big weight difference but she jumped great and I think she could be a nice big priced surprise winner at Cheltenham.
As for At Fishers Cross if I see him at a short price again this year I will personally be laying him!
If he is 16/1 on the day and hasn’t redeemed himself by then, I may even lay him at 16’s, it all depends on how well I have done in the festival up to that point!
